Barley Milling and Malt Exports in Historical Records

The demand for malt led to greater production and industrialization of the cereal.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation reports that the milling of brewer's barley reached 1,116,140 tons during 2022, marking a new historical record.

The growth of the industrialization of this cereal maintains a correlation with the historical production achieved in 2021/22, when as revealed by the data of the Undersecretary of Agriculture, 5,279,000 tons were harvested, the maximum volume of the last decade.

It should also be noted that in Argentina the increase in demand for malt boosted the production of brewer's barley for beers as an interesting commercial option that stimulated the producer so that the cultivars evolve as occurred in the last five years, in addition to benefiting the structure of the soils, given a better crop rotation.

In this sense, malt exports also reached record marks both in volume and in value during 2022, when 669,506 tons were traded for US$ 387,762,356.
