Brazilian National Supply Company (Conab)

The Brazilian National Supply Company (Conab) is a public company under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA). It is in charge of managing the agricultural production trajectory: from the planning to the planting and up until in reaches the consumer's table, ensuring the basic needs of society.

The Company conducts studies and price statistics, as well as surveys on the production costs of agriculture, the expectation of sowing and harvesting grains, and the volume and location of public and private stocks a range of products.

Mission

The Conab is responsible for the implementation of food policies under the Guaranteed Minimum Price Policy (PGPM), which is done through the Federal Government Acquisitions (AGF), an instrument capable of balancing the incomes of farmers, farming families and their cooperatives, against fluctuations in the prices of the market.

The Brazilian Government has the possibility of correcting any oversupply, a critical period for the producer, or return the surplus to the market in the off-season, thus mitigating the impact of rising consumer prices. This set of actions that reflect the practice of PGPM are crucial for boosting agriculture and regulating the country's food supply storage.

Services

The articulations are the actions that involve the study, planning and administration, including, for example, the management of the National Registry of Storage Units, which shows where Brazil's warehouses are, how many are there and what is their static capacity. The Food Acquisition Program (PAA), in which the government purchases family production at adequate prices, without complications and without intermediaries, also Conab has an effective presence in its implementation, in collaboration with other government agencies.

Another assignment of the Company in relation to the market is the sale of public stocks through legal processes, such as electronic auctions. Those with limited access to this types of operations in the case of small producers and micro agricultural enterprises, Conab offers the option of a counter sales program.

Thanks to its expertise in supply logistics, the Conab coordinates the structuring of wholesale food product markets to improve their performance.
