Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is commonly used as a condiment and in the preparation of herbal infusions.
Its name means "the joy of the mountain", it has been used in natural remedies for thousands of years and is essential in Mediterranean cuisine. It combines very well in salad dressings, or with cheeses, meats and eggs. It can be used fresh, but the aroma of its leaves is intensified when dried. Like other herbs, oregano loses its flavor when cooked, so it is better to add it at the end of any preparation.
Nutritional information
Oregano contains vitamins A, C and K, as well as fiber, folate, iron, magnesium, vitamin B6, calcium and potassium. In addition, oregano, which is sometimes called “marjoram” contains potent phytochemicals that offer potential health benefits.
