Nutmeg is the seed of a tree called Myrictica. It is cultivated in order to get two types of spices: nutmeg, which is the seed, and mace, the seed covering. It is also used to get the nutmeg essential oil and nutmeg butter. The main producer of nutmeg and mace is Indonesia.

It can cause allergic reactions if consumed in excessive amounts, such as contact dermatitis or psychoactive effects.
Direct uses and industrial applications
The spice has a distinctive pungent fragrance and a warm and sweet taste. It is used to flavor different types of dishes, but mostly baked goods, puddings, confections, eggnog, potatoes, vegetables, meats, sausages and sauces, among others.
