How Alibaba grew in Latin America?

When we talk about marketplaces the first one that might come into our mind is Alibaba, which has already overpowered the chinese market and the past few years has been trying to explore other regions. 

In fact Jack Ma's creation has been increasing during 2020 and stablished firmly in 2021 in Latinamerica. Alibaba’s growth in the region is discreet. Yet, this difference is hardly surprising when we consider how that discretion could be giving Alibaba a competitive edge in the region.

E-commerce in Latin America reached $200 billion and became one of the fastest growing markets in 2020, according to a study done by Beyond Borders last year. Its evident that the pandemic caused a dramatic growth from the new purchasers. According to Beyond Borders, 52 million people in Latin America shopped online for the first time during the pandemic, a digital shopper increase of up to 30% in some countries.

In Mexico, buyers have chosen mobile purchases over desktop ones. In other countrys there have been big changes too, Chile is now winning the e-commerce game as well. The South American country is projected to see its volume of online transactions duplicate in the next few years.

Alibaba targets South America e-commerce with Atlas Air deal

Alibaba understood that there was a big chance of growth in the Latin amercian market, so they decided to step firmly in the region. Therefore, during the global pandemic, Cainiao Smart Logistics Network signed a cooperation agreement with the American freight transport airline Atlas Air to help it target South America.
