PayPal Reveals E-commerce Tendencies in Spain

The consumers expectations about brands and online shipping has changed dramatically the past few years

PayPal has shared a survey made to Spanish companies and consumers about digital payments. This study was realized during the months of june and july, and here are a few of the tendecies of the consumers expectations:

Consumers demand hassle-free payment experiences

  • The main barriers to online shopping are the concern about security in the payment process (58% of respondents) and a long and confusing purchase process (47%).
  • 46% of Spanish participants stated that a key factor for buying on the Internet is that the seller offers their preferred payment type, followed by 35% who highlighted the speed of the payment process.
  • 62% of Spanish consumers have abandoned an online purchase on some occasion. Not being able to pay with their preferred payment method (30%) and concern about the security of the operation (31%) are the main reasons for abandoning a purchase.
  • 32% of Spanish shoppers stated that PayPal is their preferred payment option, followed by debit cards (25%) and credit cards (18%).

Beatriz Giménez, PayPal Iberia director, said that, ¨for buyers, everything revolves around the speed and simplicity of finding what they need and getting it quickly and unhindered, whether it's fast delivery, or just finding a product that is in stock.¨

Trading on social networks

37% of buyers have shopped on social networks in the last 6 months and 11% said that they do regularly during the week. The main categories of products that Spaniards consume on social networks are clothing and accessories with a 35%, health and beauty products with a 28% and online games at 25%.
Following this trend, time goes by and more Spanish businesses are dabbling into e-commerce. Almost 70% of that countrie's businesses that sell online do so through social networks.
