World Organization for Animal Health (OIE)

Formerly known as the Office International des Epizooties (OIE), the World Organization for Animal Health is an intergovernmental organization that was created for addressing the need to fight animal diseases at a global scale.

By coordinating, supporting and promoting animal disease control, the OIE's main objective is to eradicate epizootic diseases and prevent their spread, in order to improve animal health for several countries.

The OIE counts with the recognition of the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as 75 other international and regional organizations and has a Regional and sub-regional office on every continent.

This entity counts with both institutional and financial autonomy, and does not depend on the UN system. Its activities are governed by its own constitutional texts. It is placed under the authority and control of a World Assembly of Delegates, integrated by designated Delegates from al member countries.
