The tomato is original from the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant. It is said that is has been first planted in western South and Central America. Its historical name tomatl gave origin to the Spanish word tomate, which derived into tomato in English. Its use as a cultivated food may have originated with the indigenous peoples of Mexico. The Aztecs used tomatoes at the time of the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, and they were the ones who brought the plant to Europe. From there, the tomato was introduced to other parts of the European-colonized world during the 16th century.

Numerous varieties of the tomato plant are widely grown in temperate climates across the world, with greenhouses allowing for the production of tomatoes throughout all seasons of the year. Tomato plants typically grow to 1–3 meters in height.

The main tomato producing areas in Argentina are the provinces of Mendoza and San Juan (West), Salta and Jujuy (North), Corrientes and Formosa (North Eastern), Rio Negro (South), and Buenos Aires.

Market overview and production

Tomato extract powder is made from fresh grown tomatoes. Tomatoes are first to cut into slices and then dried to remove moisture content from them. After that, they are processed and ground to form a fine powder.

It is commonly used in culinary products to provide color and flavor, for instance in stews, sauces for meat or chicken, sprinkled in salads, and so forth. Lately it gained importance in skincare products due to its emollient and anti-aging properties.

Tomatoes themselves possess the antioxidant action of lycopene and the benefits of beta-carotene, phytoene, phytosterols, among others. These nutrients combined all together, helps the tomato to be considered as a valuable source ingredient for functional foods. Its regular consumption is good for healthy bones, heart health and for providing antioxidants to the body. As a colorant, the lycopene provides their juicy red color, which is an ideal option to artificial food coloring, providing natural color and nutritional benefits.

Lycopene has long been associated with promoting skin health. Tomato Powder has Exfoliating Properties that help you to eliminate toxins and dead skin cells. Eventually, this improves the overall health and condition of your skin. Face masks, scrubs, serums, moisturizers, body washes, face washes, and other cosmetic and skincare products contain Tomato powder as one of the primary ingredients.
