FedEx Analyzes Moving to a Bigger Plant in Argentina

12/26/2022

Silvina Prette, responsible for FedEx in Argentina, explained the move they need to do.

Silvina Prette walks through the Villa Lugano warehouse. She knows it from end to end, corner by corner. To her and to every person who, today, processes 3500 packages a day there. She greets them by their first names, one by one. The executive has a 31-year career at FedEx, practically, since the company landed in the country. In the last 12, with the responsibility of leading the local operation of the American logistics giant, composed of 262 direct employees and 170 operational. She describes, with a mixture of obsession, satisfaction and pride, every detail of the process: how the shipments are classified, at what times, where the trucks are located and loaded, the number of routes (34) they cover, the moments of arrival of the cargo plane to Ezeiza, those of departure, the volume of import packages and, fundamentally, the growing export flow. In his head, there are the past, the present and, fundamentally, the future of the company.

"We already have a level of activity that requires us, at least, 3000 square meters of warehouse, more than we have here," Silvina Prette says. "We are analyzing options, studying what to do. It is already very difficult to expand here. There are days when we even have to use the side streets to be able to operate," she anticipates, in a talk with The Chronicler in which she talked about his growth plans, the macro scenario he foresees for 2023 and, also, how fundamental courier services are for Argentine companies - especially SMEs - to have inputs to produce and export.

The concrete thing is that we need 3000 m2 and today we are in less than that. Despite everything, we can manage well with cargo income and expenses. But, for better comfort, we need those 3000 meters.

One of the advantages of this plant for you is the location: close and direct to Ezeiza and with quick access to other points of the City and the GBA. It will be very difficult to find something similar.

The variables we are looking for have to do with access to the airport, which is where we have our flight, and to the main routes through our distribution routes. The correct location is very important. When we evaluate, we also look at where our clients are, the geographical areas, the accesses, everything related to procedures and authorizations to be able to operate, both in CABA and in the Province... But, in logistics, everything is always organizable: if the airport is further away, I can reorganize with smaller trucks. Everything is analyzed. Also, it is necessary to see what availability exists today in the real estate offer.
